Richard Gourlay has been managing venture capital funds and making venture capital investments since 1995 the last seven years of whch he has been MD at Sussex Place Ventures. After an Economics degree at London University and a short career with Citibank, financing ship owners, he spent 14 years as a journalist. The last 10 of these years he worked on the Financial Times as a foreign correspondent in Asia and latterly as the editor/writer in reporting on the venture capital and technolgy start-up sectors. His experience watching start-ups and backing them has given him a thick layer of scar tissue and the resilience to support good management even if they do not at first succeed.
He is a non executive director on the boards of Phosphonics www.phosphonics.com , Infinitesima www.infinitesima.com and Sinewave www.sinewavecompany.com and he has overall responsibility for investors' interests in all Regents Park Partners LP fund investments.
John Brimacombe has been a venture partner at Sussex Place Ventures since returning from the US in 2005 where he was COO of Hands-On Mobile, a major venture-backed mobile content delivery technology and publishing business with worldwide operations. He is on the boards of Skimlinks and Endomagnetics and also Chairman of Linguamatics, a provider of advanced knowledge discovery tools to the Pharmaceuticals sector. John previously founded Jobstream Group Plc, a software business serving the institutional offshore finance market.
John has an MA in Law and Diploma in computer science from Trinity College, Cambridge.
Barnaby Terry has been a partner at Sussex Place Ventures since 2011 having spent the previous 18 years at 3i and Elderstreet investing in UK technology businesses including Edenbrook Ltd and Content Technologies, which was acquired by Baltimore for $1billion. Barnaby leads the software investing team at Sussex Place Ventures. Prior to his career as a technology VC Barnaby worked in enterprise sales in the data communications industry. He is on the board of Kimble Applications, a cloud based ERP vendor, and is an advisor to Jacana, a Sub-Saharan African private equity group. Barnaby is an engineering graduate of Imperial College, London and holds an MBA from Erasmus University, Rotterdam.
Ivan Shyr joined Sussex Place Ventures in 2011 after five years of operational experience in Shanghai based semi-conductor manufactuerer, Gulf Semiconductor. He moved to China after a cross border sales and business development management role for Dare Technologies, San Francisco. He has an Economics degree from University of California Berkeley and an MBA from London Business School.
